This playbill announces performances of Little Nelly on September 14th, 15th and 16th, 1871 at the Theatre Royal, Portsmouth.  This “Celebrated Version” of Dickens’s Old Curiosity Shop was produced by G. Murray and consisted of four acts.  Miss Virginia Blackwood starred in two roles: as Little Nelly and as the Marchioness.  Blackwood starred in many plays adapted from Dickens’s novels, including Barnaby Rudge, David Copperfield, and Bleak House.  After the initial performances in Portsmouth, Little Nelly opened in London at the Surrey on November 23rd, 1872.
