This playbill is for the January 3, 1866 performance of Dot! at the Varieties Theatre, Gravier Street, New Orleans, Louisiana.  This performance took place just nine months after General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia, ending the War Between the States.

Lewis Baker, who was cast as Caleb Plummer, had starred as Micawber in an early dramatization of David Copperfield at Barnumís Museum in Philadelphia.  He then took the show on the road and played in New Orleans and San Francisco.  The famous actress Henrietta Baker Chanfrau was cast as Dot Peerybingle in Dot!  She was perhaps best known for her role as Portia in the famous performance of Julius Caesar on November 25th, 1864, in which the three Booth brothers (Junius, Edwin, and Lincoln assassin John Wilkes), were cast as Cassius, Brutus, and Mark Antony.
