The Strange Gentleman was a theatrical adaptation of Dickensís story The Great Winglebury Duel, published in Sketches by Boz.  This is a portrait of the comedian J. P. Harley in the leading role from The Strange Gentleman.  The first performance of The Strange Gentleman was given on September 29th, 1836.  Harley played the title role for sixty nights.  Another in the cast was Madame Sala, the mother of George Augustus Sala.
