In 1887, Chatto and Windus published Memories and Portraits by Robert Louis Stevenson, which contained his essay A Penny Plain, and Twopence ColouredStevenson writes of his own collection of toy theaters (which did not include Greenís Oliver Twist).  The essay inspired a revival of interest in toy theaters.  The title page of the first edition of Stevenson's book, and the first page of the essay are exhibited here.
