Playbill advertising the first dramatization of Dickensís novel, Nicholas Nickleby.  The dramatization was written by Edward Stirling (who dedicated it to Dickens).  It was performed at the Royal Adelphi Theatre, London, and ran from November 19th, 1838 to February 11th, 1839, a total of 160 performances.  This playbill is for the Monday, January 14th, 1839 performance.  Note the diversity of entertainment offered the audience on the evening of January 14thNicholas Nickleby shared the bill with the Adelphi Giant! Mons. Bihin, (The Tallest Man in the World!).  Also on the bill is Harlequin and the Silver Dove! or The Fairy of the Golden Ladder.
