Hard Times is the least dramatized of any of Dickensís novels, having appeared fewer than three dozen times in a dramatic form between 1854, when the book was published, and 1985.  This is an image from the pressbook for the 1977 Hard Times teleplay, aired in the United Kingdom on Grenada TV, and in the United States on the PBS station WNET/13, New York.  Hard Times portrays the harsh impact of the Industrial Revolution on the working poor, and is Dickensís most important book in the social-reform arena.
